After Red Hat's decision to change direction for CentOS — moving it to CentOS Stream as of January 1, 2022 — we understand the need for a serious alternative to this distribution.

### AlmaLinux: a serious alternative to CentOS

AlmaLinux is a fork developed by CloudLinux.

> "In an effort to fill the gap soon to be left by the disappearance of CentOS as a stable release, AlmaLinux was developed in close collaboration with the Linux community" said Aboutaboul in a statement. "These efforts resulted in a production-ready alternative to CentOS, backed by community members" — AlmaLinux Community Manager.

CloudLinux was founded in 2009 to deliver a customised, performant and secure CentOS fork for web hosting providers. We use it ourselves to harden our cPanel and Plesk servers.

The stable version of AlmaLinux is now available as a one-click install on our VPS.
